Introduction
Annually on the 6th July we observe and celebrate Omnisexual Visibility Day whilst raising awareness to omnisexuality and those who identify as omnisexual. This visibility date hopes to bring further awareness and understanding to the omnisexual community though education, unity and stories around the world on what it means to be omnisexual and cultural difficulties experienced across the globe from omnisexual people.
What is Omnisexual?
People who identify as omnisexual are attracted to those of all gender identities and sexual orientations. Omnisexuality is in the category of multisexuality, which includes people who are attracted to more than one gender. Omnisexual people are often categorised in this group along with those who are bisexual, polysexual, and pansexual.
There’s no one way to identify as omnisexual. Omnisexual and pansexual, which refers to being attracted to people of any gender identity, are often used interchangeably, though there are differences between the two.
Omnisexual people may find their gender identity confused with other sexual orientations in the multisexuality category, and some may feel pressure to conform to a label more familiar to others.
Is Omnisexual and Pansexual the Same?
It is common for people to use the terms pansexual and omnisexual interchangeably. Although they are closely related, there are differences between both of these identities. Those who do identify as pansexual feel attraction to people without noticing their gender, whereas omnisexual people recognise the gender of others.
It is known more simply that pansexual people are gender-blind, whereas omnisexual people are not. Even though omnisexual people recognise the gender of others, it does not play a huge part in their choice of partner.
