What Is Genderfluid?

Gender fluidity refers to the change over time in a person's gender expression or gender identity, or in some cases both. This change can be either for expression, but not identity, or the reverse. It can also be both expression and identity that change together.

Gender fluidity can be a way to explore gender before landing on a more stable gender expression or identity, this is most common within LBGTQ+ youth. However, people can remain genderfluid indefinitely as part of their life experience with gender.

Genderfluid can be a gender identity on its own, or can also be used as an umbrella term to describe somebody whose gender changes.

Genderfluid Pride Flag

The genderfluid pride flag was created by JJ Poole, also known as thoughtstoberemembered on Tumblr, on the 2nd of August 2012. The flag, like many other LGBTQ+ pride flags, was created to provide a way to share genderfluidity and share awareness to genderfluid people globally.

Colours Of The Genderfluid Flag

Like many other LGBTQ+ pride flags, the genderfluid pride flag consists of numerous horizontal colours which each represent a different part of what makes genderfluidity. Firstly, pink represents femininity, blue represents masculinity, purple for both femininity and masculinity representation, with black representing lack of gender and finally white to represent all genders.
